Chesterton Art Center April Exhibitions + FREE Family Art Day!
Chesterton Art Center (CAC) will be hosting two separate exhibitions in our galleries during April. The Duneland Weavers Guild will be showcasing their work April 3-30 in the upper gallery. An opening reception featuring items for sale and prize drawings will be held on April 5, from 12-3 PM, with a style show at 1 PM. The Duneland Weavers Guild welcomes artists of all skill levels—from talented professionals to curious novices to learn about and expand expertise in handweaving, spinning, and other fiber arts.
“Creative Horizons: CAC Youth Art Exhibition” highlights artwork created by students (ages 5-18) in CAC’s studio and Youth Arts Outreach programs. The students featured in this exhibition participated in CAC programming between September 2024 and March 2025. This show is a celebration of the young artists who imagine, make, construct, and create with CAC! “Creative Horizons” will be on display April 4-30 in the lower gallery. A reception will be held on Friday, April 11, 5-7 PM.
CAC will also be hosting a FREE Family Art Day is April. Join CAC, in partnership with Three Moons Fiberworks, for a special Family Art Day focused on fiber arts! Families will have the chance to explore the creative world of fiber arts, just like the artists of the Duneland Weavers Guild whose annual exhibition will be on display in our upper gallery.
After taking in the exhibit, visitors can move to the classroom area to engage in projects inspired by the artwork, including woven self-portraits, embroidered wall hangings, and a community weaving project. Plus, visitors will have the opportunity to learn about yarn spinning and watch a live demonstration of the process.
“I think my favorite times of the year are when we host our free Family Art Days,” said Cara Schmitt, CAC Education Director. “Not only is it lovely to open our doors to the community for a day full of making and looking at art, but it’s really exciting to design projects that allow visitors to try out some of the methods used by the artists on display in our gallery.”
Three Moons Fiberworks is a one-of-a-kind fiber arts studio, store, and school located in the old Chesterton Post Office in historic downtown Chesterton, Indiana. Three Moons Fiberworks fosters and supports community by providing quality fiber art materials, ample space to create and an open and encouraging atmosphere.
