at the Marshall J. Gardner Center for the Arts

Closing Reception November 15, 2024

EXHIBITION SUMMARY Muralist and painter Felix Maldonado’s work ranges from abstract to graffiti art to portraiture, with significant commissions in creating large-scale works. His message often relates to political and historical situations where the work is strategically placed within its geographic context. Felix best describes his technique as “Post-Graffiti Modern Impressionism”- a nod to the avant-garde Impressionists and the Graffiti Movement. Widely known for his mural of the Jackson Five that graced downtown Gary for many years, “reFLEXion” is a select example of the vast and versatile paintings he has created throughout his artistic career. Join us to celebrate FLEX at the opening of this exhibit on October 11, 6 – 8pm. Exhibits at the Marshall J Gardner Center for the Arts are free and open to the public. Visit millerbacharts.org for more info. ARTIST BIO Born and raised in East Chicago, Indiana, Felix is a classically trained and award-winning artist with 35+ years of experience in murals, painting, and graffiti art. In 1995, he received his BFA in Advertising from the American Academy of Art in Chicago. His work as an Art Director landed him at several ad agencies in Chicago, producing award-winning commercials for clients such as Culligan Water, Peoples Energy, Roto-Rooter, and Head Tennis International. In 2002, Felix shifted his focus back to the fine arts and owns FLEX Creative Worldwide LLC. located in downtown Hammond, Indiana, producing colorful murals throughout Northwest Indiana, the United States, and Mexico.
