This week on ART ON THE AIR our whole show features intergalactic star-rockin' musician, BethyLoveLight, where she will exclusively preview her new song release, Samadhi. Our spotlight is on Chicago Street Theatre’s annual presentation of TeenFest on May 9 and 10.

ART ON THE AIR is an hour-long radio show that opens with a short Spotlight Interview about local art events in Northwest Indiana’s three county area, then continues with a long-form Feature Interview. Guests include individual artists, photographers, gallery owner/curators, festival sponsors, authors, musicians, the shakers and movers, and cultural features in NW Indiana, Chicago and beyond discussing the art, theater, and the music scene, plus much more. Hosts are Larry A Brechner, long-time musical theater director, photographic artist, and arts organization board member, and Ester Golden, artist and gallery owner of The Nest in Michigan City.

Attention all Young Musicians (and their parents!)

The Northwest Indiana Symphony Orchestra’s 2025 Young People's Competition auditions are coming on May 17. Winners will be selected to perform on a Symphony concert in our upcoming season.


Register here

To audition, students must:

  • Play an instrument or sing (solo, duet, trio, quartet are accepted).

  • Memorize musical selection of their choice. The piece may be longer than 2 minutes, but the excerpt performed may not exceed 2 minutes.

  • Reside in Lake, Porter, Jasper, Newton La Porte or Starke Counties; study with a teacher in those counties; or be a member of the Northwest Indiana Symphony Youth Orchestra.

  • Must provide accompanist for auditions and for the concert.

Nestled within the woodsy dunes of Michiana Shores, Dunes Summer Theatre, located at 288 Shady Oak Dr, Michigan City, Ind., has brought professional performances to Harbor Country for more than seven decades and is northwest Indiana’s longest-running summer theater program.

Artistic Director Steve Scott, who joined Dunes Summer Theatre in 2021 after producing more than 200 productions at Chicago’s Goodman Theatre for more than three decades, is especially excited about this year’s offerings to southwest Lake Michigan’s performing arts community. “Our theme this year is ‘Opposites Attract,’” said Scott. “Our audiences will delight—and in some cases be terrified by—the results when very different people are forced together in highly emotional circumstances. It’s the essence of theater, and I’m very excited to see the results.”
